So I have been neglecting the blog... I can't imagine what has been keeping me so busy! I'm going to try to squeeze one months worth of stuff into one post, so here goes:
Early in the month, we had a snow/ice event. Nikki came to our house and got snowed in with us, and we enjoyed just being stuck inside with eachother for a few days!
Something very exciting happened this month... Garrett was featured on the cover of Alabama Baby Magazine!! We were so thrilled that his photo was chosen, and it is something we will cherish forever and ever! Stephanie Fisher is simply an amazing photographer all around!
One of his photos was also used as Stephanie's ad in the Birmingham Kid's Directory!
One Sunday during January, I was having a small "sprinkle" for my friend Leigh Ann at my house. About an hour and a half before people were due to start arriving, Garrett's cheeks turned BRIGHT RED. It looked like he had a chemical burn, and it just appeared out of nowhere. The nurse I called told us to watch him, but if it went away and he was happy there was no need to rush to the ER (which I was wanting to do!) He was perfectly happy, and it went away within the hour, so we went ahead with the sprinkle. After everyone left, I fed the baby and little splotches appeared all over his body. After it happened a THIRD time, I realized it was happening every time I nursed him. The only thing that had changed was the night before, I had taken Fenugreek, an herbal supplement used to support milk supply in nursing mothers. Turns out he is allergic to it and it was causing him to break out into hives! I had to keep feeding him and allowing him to break out until it got completely out of both of our systems, which took 6 days! All from one pill! I'm glad that is over, but I am very weary since Fenugreek is somehow related to peanuts, so there is a chance he could have a peanut allergy. I am praying hard that does not turn out to be the case!
We went to the circus! Lots of fun!
We are having lots of fun with the new little guy around. I am loving the 4.5 year age spread... it just really helps that Hayden is so independent. He can get his own snacks and drinks, dress himself, change the channel on the tv, turn on/set up the wii unassisted, get on the computer and find his favorite websites, unbuckle himself in the car, he knows not to run out into traffic in the parking lot, he can put himself to bed if need be... the list goes ON! And he is so into the baby... every little thing Garrett does he acknowledges, and he understands that he cries because he can't talk and that he needs extra attention from me and he is ok with that. He is such a SWEET big brother and already so protective of his little bro.
At Garrett's 2 month checkup, he weighed 10 lbs 12 oz and that is in the 50th percentile. His height was also in the 50th percentile, but I don't remember the measurement. His head was in the 90th percentile, and thus sprung the nick name "Fat Head." I never had many nicknames with Hayden, but Garrett has quite a few. They just flow off of my tongue for some reason! "Fat Head", "Stinky Face", "Seet Monk" (somehow derived from Sweet Monkey)... and Hayden is always quick to remind me that we don't call people mean names. Good big brother!!
Check out that Dimple!
